I WISH I Just Kept Running (in my best Forrest Gump Voice)

For those of you that are actually runners, you might want to stop reading now. I am probably going to make you laugh, and make TONS of fun of me, but I'm totally OK with that. I am NOT a runner currently, but hope some day soon I can get into it.

I started the C25k Monday night, let me tell you what an experience that was, oh my! Let me preface this story by telling you, for the past year and a half, I've been a stay at home mom, and I run a small daycare (4 kids). I chase kids around all day, but that is NOTHING like running/working out. The girls and I go on walks through the neighborhood, and do plenty of physical activities. I try not to sit around on the couch and veg until after the girls go to bed at night. None of this compares to the exhaustion I felt as I was jogging.

The program is a 12 9 week (see I don't even know what the heck I'm talking about, thanks IA :)), 3 days a week program that helps you to achieve being able to run a 5k by the time it's all said and done. The first week, you do a brisk walk for 5 minutes, then run for 60 seconds and walk for 90 seconds, for a total of 20 minutes. Sounds pretty easy, right? I thought so too. I was SO proud of myself, and did really well. I downloaded the c25k app on my phone, which is an awesome tool. It times your 5 minute walk, and then beeps (over your music) to tell you when to run and when to walk. Remember how I said it was only supposed to be for 20 minutes? Well I started feeling exhausted, so I skipped one of the runs and decided to walk. We got back home and I pulled out my phone to see how long I made it, well the darn timer didn't stop at 20 minutes, what in the world?! I had gone for 35 minutes. I felt good after it was all said and done, just tired! I'll save a funny story of what I wore as a sports bra for my Friday Confessional, I'm a mess! HA!

Gerrad decided he is going to join in as well, which I'm super excited about. We have both been wanting to get into something that we can do together, and I'm SO glad it's this. Our goal is to run a 5k after we've completed the program. Pray for us, Lord knows we need it! HA! We went last night and got some new shoes, so hopefully that helps motivate us (one can hope, right?!). I NEED to put this song on my playlist now ;) All of our friends that are runners say it will get easier, and that the first week is one of the most brutal, here's to hoping they're right! I wish it was as easy as Tom Hanks makes it seem.

Our new kicks, which I'm pretty pumped about. I talked to the guy who was working at Dick's last night about which were the best running shoes (as if I'm actually a 'runner'), so I settled with his top recommendation. I've always been a lover of asics, so it was an easy choice. Gerrad thought the Nike's seemed like they would last the longest, and were the most comfortable.

I plan to post about how we're doing every few weeks. I know it's kind of a boring topic so I'll try not to overload you :) Wish us luck, eek!

Good for you! I think you'll find that most people within the "running community" are really supportive of newbies. It is great that you are doing this! I'm an Asics girl, too!

Wahoo! You go, Molly!

Listen to bad rap songs when you run - that seems to make me run faster. Ha!

I've done Couch 25K once before but I only made it half way. I think it's only 9 weeks and not 12 though which is better if you ask me! HA! I just started again this week too. I hate running but it works for me. I wish I had a partner. BOO. Wish you were closer!

Yay!! GOOD for you!! I actually downloaded this app as well. I've done a 5K before but really need to get back into training for the warrior dash that I'm doing in July. I don't want to suffer through it, I want to kick ass at it!! LOVE your new kicks too-- I love my Asiacs too. Best of luck!!
